Biography of Mengxiong Liu

Dr. Mengxiong Liu is an Engineering Librarian and adjunct Professor of Library and Information Science at San José State University, California, since 1989. She received her Ph.D. in Library and Information Studies from University of Michigan, MLS from University of Denver, and BA in English from Shanghai International Studies University.Her teaching and research efforts have been focusing on human information seeking behavior, reference and information services, and science and technology information resources. In 2007, she received the Department of State’s Fulbright Senior Specialist Award and completed her lecture tour in Uruguay in November.

She has published numerous research articles in scholarly journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters. Her articles on human citing behavior were frequently cited by researchers and scholars. Dr. Liu is also an active speaker at national and international professional conferences. She was invited to lecture on Digital Libraries and Reference Services in the Digital Environment in the National Library of China in Beijing and the National Taichung Library in Taiwan.

In addition to teaching and research, she has been actively involved in professional organizations, such as the American Library Association (ALA) and the ethnic librarians associations. She served on the Steering Committee of ALA Spectrum Scholarship and ALA's Diversity Council. She was the past President of the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) and currently serves on its Board of Directors. She also works at various capacities with the Asian pacific American Librarians Association (APALA).
