Michael Umphrey

Michael Umphrey directs a cultural journalism project at Polson High School on the Flathead Reservation in western Montana. He was founding director of the Montana Heritage Project–a partnership between the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, the Montana Historical Society, and the Montana Office of Public Instruction to engage secondary students in 33 high schools in local research and writing projects. His most recent book is The Power of Community-Centered Education: Teaching as a Craft of Place from Rowman & Littlefield.
